"It's my hope that we can shift the conversation away from weight loss and diet restriction to self care and nourishment"

My name is Ashley, founder of The Self Care Dietitian.  I've been a practicing Dietitian since 2012 and became a food sensitivity expert, called a Certified LEAP Therapist, in 2021. You can learn more about LEAP therapy here.

I utilize functional medicine testing and personalized diet therapy to help women feel better than they have in years!  We get to the root cause of your bloating, food sensitivities, and hormone imbalances to finally heal your gut, get your energy level back, and gain self confidence. Our work together will always take your lifestyle and mental health into consideration. I understand that everyone's relationship with food is different.  I teach you how to ditch fad diets and, instead, use food as a form of self care.

Welcome, Friends!

My interest in nutrition goes back as far as I can remember!  I’ve always had a genuine curiosity about the foods I eat and how those choices affect my body. Unfortunately, like many, my first introduction to nutrition was mostly from diet culture

The available resources on nutrition were fitness magazines, weight loss books, and even celebrities. The information I read made me think that food was nothing more than calories and it taught me a whole slew of ways to “cheat” hunger and achieve weight loss.

I was under the impression that certain foods make you gain weight and should be considered “bad”, while other *low-calorie* foods are “good”.  This way of thinking led me to conclude that calories were the only measure of whether a food was healthy or not. I was unknowingly missing out on the whole host of benefits our food can provide! And at the same time, I was destroying my gut health by eating mostly low calorie processed foods and very little variety.

It wasn’t until college when I majored in nutrition that my eyes were opened.

There was so much more to know about food and our health than calories!

The right nutrition can prevent conditions like dementia, cardiac events, and certain cancers. It can alleviate irritating symptoms of chronic disease and it plays an important role in autoimmune disorders. What we eat affects our mood, energy level, brain function, and anxiety. These truths influence my food choices daily and it is this realization that inspired me to start The Self Care Dietitian. I want women to feel empowered with nutrition knowledge so they can finally start to view nutrition as celebration worthy.  It's my hope that we can shift the conversation away from weight loss and restriction to self care and nourishment. Women should be able to feel confident in their ability to choose foods that benefit their body and their mind.

I want you to know that you are in good hands when we work together.

  • I take a research-based approach to nutrition that combines the best of conventional and functional medicine.

  • The best nutrition plan is one that's personalizedYours should take into consideration your lifestyle, your mental health, your goals, and your body chemistry.

  • Dieting should also leave room for celebrations! Good nutrition isn’t about limitations or diet restrictions, it’s about filling your plate with the countless foods that can optimize your health.
